Their reasoning is that this will consume data and battery; in practice, though, it just cripples web apps and stifles the evolution of the web. WebMuted autoplay is supported by Safari on iOS 10 and later. Autoplay, whether muted or not, is already supported on Android by Firefox and UC Browser: they do not block any kind of autoplay.
